The band’s debut album was called On Through The Night. It came out in 1980, and it was a pretty big hit in the United Kingdom. Their second album was called High And Dry, and came out in 1981. It was produced by a pretty successful producer by the name of Robert John “Mutt” Lang, who is currently married to Shania Twain. Phil Collen was also part of the band around this time in 1982. It was around 1983, when the band released Pyromania, that they really begin to hit it big. That album went on to sell 6 million copies.
The group’s original members included Rick Savage on bass guitar, Tony Kenny playing drums, Pete Willis on guitar. The group met while they were students in England at Tapton School. The original band was called Atomic Mass. Joe Elliott eventually joined as lead singer although he originally tried out to play guitar. In 1978 the group released an EP, and it was called Def Leppard. Around this time, Tony Kenning left the group and he was replaced by Frank Noon and Rick Allen, who was a young boy at the time when he became the band’s full time drummer.
Today, the band is looking forward to the release of their album called Songs from Sparkle Lounge that is set to be released in April of 2008. The first single from the album is called Nine Lives which is a song that features the country singer, Tim McGraw. Def Leppard is also planning a tour to support the album beginning in March of 2008. The tour will also include REO, Speed Wagon and Sticks and will include performances in the United States and in several places in Europe.
