• Foo Fighters Tickets

The Rock group the Foo Fighters consists of Dave Grohl on guitar and vocals, Taylor Hawkins on drums, Nate Mendel on Bass and Chris Shiflett on guitar. The name of the band was given in honor of a term that was coined during World War II  and it means a mysterious aerial phenomena. I’m not sure how well the name fits, but the Foo Fighters have become a very popular band in the United States and around the world. They have also received high praise from their peers. Out of their six studio albums, three have won Grammys for Best

  • Rock Album.

Dave Grohl was originally a drummer for the group Nirvana. While a member of that group, he wrote some songs and even recorded a few, under the fictitious name, Late. After Kurt Cobain’s death, in the early 1990’s, Dave went to work on a demo. He eventually signed with Capital Records due to connections that the band made at their formal label. This demo would lay the ground work for the Foo Fighter’s, first album.

Not wanting to be a one-man band, Grohl recruited a group of musicians to travel with him while promoting the album. He asked Nate Mendel, formerly of Sunny Day Real Estate to play bass, William Goldsmith to play drums and Pat Smear to play guitar. They begin to tour seriously as the opening act for Mike Watt.

In 1996, the band began working on their second album. After creating some rough mixes, Grohl decided that he wasn’t happy with the album. He subsequently called up Nate Medel and Pat Smear to re-work the album with himself featured on drums. Goldsmith, the band’s original drummer, didn’t join the rest of the band in the studio and ended up leaving the band not too much later. This album, The Colour and the Shape came out in early 1997. “Monkey Wrench,” “My Hero,” and “Everlong,” were popular songs from the album. The band however, needed a drummer since Goldsmith’s departure. Taylor Hawkins, the drummer that backed up Alanis Morisette volunteered and soon joined the band. There were more changes on the way. Pat Smear was replaced with Franz Stahl, who would eventually leave the band as well.

The year, 2008 has already been good for the Foo Fighters. They have been the recipient of three Grammy Awards for Album of the Year (Echoes, Silence, Patience & Grace), Record of the Year (“The Pretender”) and Best Rock Song (“The Pretender”).
