In 2002, Johnson began to work his way back into music. He begin by starting Brushfire Records. His record company released the soundtracks for both Thicker Than Water and The September Sessions. Johnson also works to help the community. In 2004 he helped to start the Kokua Hawaii Foundation. Johnson has even incorporated this theme into his recordings. His album, Sleep Through the Static, used solar energy to record it.
