Jack Johnson Camden Tickets Jack Johnson is a popular singer, surfer and activist from Hawaii. It’s hard to fit Johnson’s music into one category, but many people might consider it soft rock. Jack Johnson came to fame after his album Brushfire Fairytales was a success. Since that short period of time, he has recorded and released a few EPs and four albums.
Once a professional surfer, he quit the pro circuit after he experienced a serious surfing accident. Instead of continuing to compete, he -
played his guitar and wrote songs while recovering. Later, he attended the University of California and began to play guitar at local parties. He graduated with a degree in film. He used that degree to direct a film titled Thicker Than Water, which was about surfing. He also workrf on a film titled, The September Sessions.
In 2002, Johnson began to work his way back into music. He begin by starting Brushfire Records. His record company released the soundtracks for both Thicker Than Water and The September Sessions. He also signed other artists to the label. Some notable artists include G. Love & Special Sauce, Matt Costa and Rogue Wave.
Johnson also works to help the community. In 2004 he helped to start the Kokua Hawaii Foundation. This foundation is a non-profit one that ensures that students in Hawaii are able to learn about environmentalism in schools and in their local areas. There is an annual festival, The Kokua Festival, which allows businesses, local organizations, teachers, artists and anyone interested in protecting the environment, to get together and promote the cause. Johnson has even incorporated this theme into his recordings. His album, Sleep Through the Static, used solar energy to record it. One of the songs on the album is titled, “All At Once” and he sings about the effects of global warming on our planet.
