Buy Jimmy Buffett Atlanta Tickets Jimmy began his musical recording career in Nashville, Tennessee. He signed a two record deal with Barnaby Records. That first album, titled, Down to Earth didn’t do well commercially, however, Buffett forged on and recorded a second album. Mysteriously the record label “lost” the recordings. They later resurfaced and were released by Janus Records.
Buffett was born in Pascagoula, Mississippi. He learned to play the guitar in college. His first -
job, post-graduation was as a writer for Billboard magazine. This is also were his own musical career was born. And while it begin in Nashville, it took off from Key West. One fateful weekend, Buffett visited the city. He so fell in love with it, moved there and enjoying it’s relaxed, beach bum pace. The city also affected his musical style. He began to combine pop, country and folk music while incorporating island themes into his lyrics.
Buffett released three major albums in the 1970’s. They included A White Sport Coat and a Pink Crustacean (1973), Havana Daydreamin’ (1976) and Changes in Latitudes, Changes in Attitudes (1977). This last album included the single that may have had the most positive impact on Buffett’s career, “Margaritaville.”
In the 1980’s, Buffett made a lot of money from touring and packing concert halls around the country. In 1985, he began to capitalize off the success of the song, Margaritaville and opened up a restaurant with the same name in Key West. He later opened up other restaurants under the same name.
The 2000’s started off really great for Buffett. He and his group, the Coral Reefer Band, got to play for the President Bill Clinton at the White House. In 2004, Buffett sold over 200,000 copies of his License to Chill album in its’ first week. The year before, in 2003, he sang a song with country crooner Alan Jackson, and saw it climb up to the top of the charts. In 2005, he performed at Wrigley Field, the first musician to use the field solely for a concert.
Buffett continues to play to his strength, touring. He generally plays about 20-30 concert dates annually. He also has a satellite radio channel, aptly titled, Radio Margaritaville. Buffett has recorded over 30 albums in his musical career. Nine of those have sold over one million records and eight of them have gone gold.
