    Chad Kroeger, Mike Kroeger, Ryan Peake and Daniel Adair make up Nickelback. This is a band of self-proclaimed ‘Canadian Rednecks’ that are signed to EMI and Roadrunner Records. They have enjoyed worldwide success with sales of almost 25 million albums.

    From Hanna, Alberta, Chad Kroeger, Mike Kroeger, their cousin Brandon and close friend Ryan Peake formed the rock band. Their music could be termed post-grunge while the name originates from Mike working at Starbucks and

    In 1996 they relocated to Vancouver after borrowing money from family to record in a friend’s studio. They also started to perform live gigs. At this point their drummer Brandon left the band and was replaced by Ryan’s friend Ryan Vikedal (‘Nik’). Despite this change they still released their first album ‘Curb’ that year.

    Their rise to fame was helped in 1999 when they won a competition on 99.3 The Fox, a Vancouver radio station that holds competitions each year to promote local bands and help them gain exposure.

    In January 1999 the album ‘ The State’ was released and achieved platinum status in Canada. It was re-released in the U.S. in March 2000 where it reached gold. Following this, ‘Silver Side Up’ was released in September 2001 after taking only 5 weeks to record. This album contained the track ‘How You Remind Me’ which many would claim as the band’s initial introduction to mainstream exposure. ‘The Long Road’ was released in 2003 and reached triple platinum in the U.S.

    In 2005 drummer Nik left the band with reports that he was forced out. Daniel Adair, former drummer of 3 Doors Down, replaced him to make the band as it currently stands. Their success has been recognized with several awards, including nine Juno awards.
