Buy Paul McCartney Tickets Sir James Paul McCartney was born on June 18, 1942. As a young singer/songwriter, Paul made one of the best singing/songwriting partnerships in the history of music by forming The Beatles with John Lennon. The duo have written some of the famous and some of the most influential pieces in the history of rock and roll, and this can even be said across the entire musical universe.
After leaving The Beatles, McCartney propelled himself into a successful solo career. He then -
went on to form a band called The Wings, with his first wife, Linda Eastman McCartney, and another singer/songwriter named Denny Laine. Apart from the commercial music business, he has also written film scores, classical music, and ambient and electronic music. Having fed off his fame from the Beatles, he has released many solo tracks, and has used many of these to help international charities, and specifically, animal rights.
The 65 year old McCartney is the most successful musician and composer in popular music ever, according to the Guinness Book of World Records. He has received 60 gold discs, and has sold well over 100 million singles, an unprecedented number. His song entitled “Yesterday” is the most covered song in music history, and has been played over 7 million times in America alone. The Wings’ single “Mull of Kintyre”, from 1977 has sold over 2 million copies in the UK, and remains to be the only non-charity benefitting single to do so.
Apart from singing and songwriting, Paul owns a company called MPL communications, which holds the copyrights to over 3,000 songs. These include songs by Buddy Holly, and publishing rights to many musicals including Grease, and Guys and Dolls.
Paul is also an iconic figure not just for his musical work, but also for his efforts to help better the world. He is an animal rights activist, and is also active in campaigns against seal hunting, and Third World debt.
