Buy Radiohead Atlanta Tickets The English group, Radiohead, may have been most recently in the news for selling their latest album from their website and allowing buyers to set their own price. It was an ambitious and risky move that both challenged and defied the recording industry and tested the groups own independence. And it worked.
Radiohead is made up of Ed O’Brien who is on guitar and back up vocals, Thom York, lead vocalist, guitar, electronics and piano, Colin Greenwood on bass and synthesiser, Jony -
Greenwood, lead guitarist and Phil Selway on percussion and drums. All of the musicians met as classmates at Abingdon School, an all-boys school in the United Kingdom.
The group’s first release was the song “Creep” and it debuted in 1992. It didn’t take off until the next year, when it became a hit single for the group. The group’s second album, The Bends, did well in the United Kingdom. They began to develop a more wide-base of fans with their third album, OK Computer, which was released in 1997. That album is considered to be one of the best records of the 1990’s.
Radiohead’s next albums Kid A and Amnesiac, also proved to be winners. They demonstrated the band’s growth musically. Jazz and electronic music seemed to influence the songs on these two albums. Kid A did nab a Best Alternative Album Grammy and was also nominated, but lost, in the Album of the Year category. But fans were split on the musical style change. Some loved it. Some hated it.
The band recorded one more album with EMI, Hail to the Thief , before they recorded and released their next album, In Rainbows through their own website. Individuals could buy the album and digitally download it. The digital release was followed by a physical release, where it still debuted at number #1 on the charts in both the United States and the United Kingdom.
In all, the Radiohead has sold over twenty million albums worldwide and has recorded and released seven albums. They continue to be in the forefront musically and in the digital age.
