Buy Stone Temple Pilots Tickets Stone Temple Pilots are an alternative rock group that is made up of four members. They include, Eric Kretz, Robert DeLeo, Dean DeLeo and Scott Weiland. The group stayed together for about 15 years only to the breakup in 2003. In 2008, Stone Temple Pilots got back together, and are planning on recording another album.
The group was originally known as Mighty Joe Young and it was just a duo with Robert DeLeo and Scott Weiland. A drummer and guitar player joined the band, making it a foursome -
and they called themselves, Mighty Joe Young. However, there was another musician that was already going by that name, so they would have to find a new one. They settled on a rather obscene name that their record label pressured them to change They did and begin going by the name the, Stereo Temple Pirates. Eventually, they would officially become the Stone Temple Pilots, in 1992.
They began performing in strip clubs and began building a following. They would eventually sign with Atlantic Records and released an album called Core. Three songs that would became popular from that album were “Plush,” “Sex Type Thing” and “Creep.” Fans were pretty receptive to the group's music. However, the critics were not impressed.
After Core, the group released Purple, Tiny Music Hiatus. This was the group’s second album and it was a huge success. The album was recorded very quickly. If fact, it took less than 30 days. “Interstate Love song” became a big single for the group. The album as a whole, reached number one on the charts. Tiny Music Songs from the Vatican Shop was the group's third album. It debuted at number four on the charts. The group was as popular as ever among fans, however member Scott Weiland begin struggling with drug abuse. A portion of the group’s 1996 tour had to be canceled due to Weiland’s drug use. In 1997, he was removed from the group and began working as a solo artist.
In 2008, the group would reunite. They will begin touring as the Stone Temple Pilots in Columbus, Ohio at the Rock on The Range Festival. They will also perform on Jay Kimmel Live in May 2008.
