    Sugarland are the Atlanta- based, American country music duo of Jennifer Nettles and Kristian Bush. They write their own songs, have produced three Billboard No1 hits and their third album, out this year, has received great response.

    Sugarland were formed in 2003 by Kristian Bush and Kristen Hall. They became a trio later when Jennifer Nettles joined them. All three had previous solo careers and after some successful live shows together they were

  • recognized and signed with Mercury Nashville Records in 2004. They released their debut single ‘Baby Girl’ that same year. Their first album ‘Twice the Speed of Life‘ was released in October 2004.

    In early 2006, Kristen Hall left to pursue a solo song-writing career and the trio became a duo once again. Shortly after this they released their second album with Hall only credited as having written one track. Some have claimed that Hall’s departure from the band was very sudden and it has raised a few eye-brows.

    Jennifer Nettles sings the lead vocals which suits her powerful soul-singer voice whilst Kristian Bush provides background vocals and plays the mandolin and the acoustic guitar. Their optimistic songs are somewhat removed from the direction their solo work had begun to take them but the pair claim to have clicked creatively from the very beginning.

    Sugarland were named the Country Music Association’s Duo of the Year in 2007. At the 2008 Academy of Country Music Awards, the duo was received the ‘Song and Single of the Year’ for their single ‘Stay’. Jennifer Nettles also became the first female artist to have solo-written the Academy of Country Music ‘Song Of The Year’.
