    The Heartbreakers were significantly more successful than Tom’s previous attempt at stardom Mudcrutch and they worked hard to build up their reputations and work towards the big time. In 1976 Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers released their first Album which was self-titled and included two major hit tracks that people continue to know and love today. These tracks were both “American Girl” alongside “Breakdown”. Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers continued to make it big in 1979 with their platinum album; Damn the Torpedo’s and Tom’s fame only grew from there. In the early 80’s Tom even got a chance to work with the biggest of names like Stevie Nicks and years following that Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers even toured with legendary artist Bob Dylan. It didn’t take long before Petty was going solo, and in 1989 he made it clear he was on his own with his first solo album ever, Full Moon Fever.
