The group came up with the name Trans Siberian Orchestra after learning about the Russian railway that brings together many different and remote cultures. The band likens their music to the Trans Siberian railway as they seek to bring many different cultures together with their music.
Trans-Siberian Orchestra was formed in 1996 and is most well-known for recording and performing Christmas music. When they are recording, they use a very large Orchestra and a choir. Their touring band is also pretty big and includes nearly 30 people.
The band’s most popular and best-selling album, was titled, Christmas and Other Stories. It was released in 1996. Since then, they have released another Christmas album, the second one titled, The Christmas Attic. The group's most famous song might be “Christmas Canon”. In 1998 they did release an album that was not Christmas focused and it was called Beethoven's Last Night. In 2005, Trans-Siberian Orchestra went on a pretty extensive concert tour that proved to be very lucrative. It brought in more than $20 million.
The group is set for a new album release in 2008. It is titled Night Castle. Jon Olva will be singing on this album. The group's unique style, which combines orchestra, rock music and many times, Christmas songs has surprisingly been very popular with audiences all over the world. The continue to sell records and sell out concert halls all over the country.
