Sammy Hagar and David Lee Roth, both left the band in dramatic fashion, with conflicting reports on the reasons why. Michael Anthony was recently asked to leave the band. After 2004, the group took a nearly two year hiatus until they chose Wolfgang Van Halen as the replacement pick on bass.

The band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2007 and soon after, David Lee Roth and the band went on a tour together soon after. There are even talks of an upcoming album including Roth.

The group, Van Halen, began when two brothers, Alex and Eddie took up the guitar and drums. They originally called themselves the Trojan Rubber Company and then went on to start a band called Mammoth in 1972 with Eddie on vocals, Alex on drums and Mark Stone on bass. That same year, the group found that the band name Mammoth was taken and as a result, changed their name to Van Halen. Van Halen played the Sunset Strip and began developing a following. They were later signed with Warner Brothers Records after representatives saw them perform and were blown away.
