Van Halen Tickets Van Halen has been a very popular hark rock band since the early 1970’s. They have also been a band that has been rife with controversy, drama and exiting band members. However, through it all, they have been quite successful. The band has sold over 80 million albums around the world and 56 million albums sold in the United States alone. The band’s peak was probably between the late 1970’s and late 1990’s, before major turmoil overtook the group.
-
Sammy Hagar and David Lee Roth, both left the band in dramatic fashion, with conflicting reports on the reasons why. Michael Anthony was recently asked to leave the band. After 2004, the group took a nearly two year hiatus until they chose Wolfgang Van Halen as the replacement pick on bass.
The band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2007 and soon after, David Lee Roth and the band went on a tour together soon after. There are even talks of an upcoming album including Roth.
The group, Van Halen, began when two brothers, Alex and Eddie took up the guitar and drums. They originally called themselves the Trojan Rubber Company and then went on to start a band called Mammoth in 1972 with Eddie on vocals, Alex on drums and Mark Stone on bass. David Lee Roth came into the picture because the group was renting sound equipment from him. In order to cut costs, they offered him the job as lead vocalist. He had auditioned earlier, but did not win the part. Two years later, Mark Stone was replaced with Michael Anthony. That same year, the group found that the band name Mammoth was taken and as a result, changed their name to Van Halen. Van Halen played the Sunset Strip and began developing a following. They were later signed with Warner Brothers Records after representatives saw them perform and were blown away. They recorded their first album and was praised for its’ innovativeness and risk taking. That album ended up in the top 20 on Billboard’s pop music charts.
