    In 1961, Nelson would finally get his own recording contract. Unable to keep the success going, Nelson would eventually retire to Austin, Texas. The hippie scene would help Nelson rejuvenate his career. He began singing again and playing gigs around Austin, where he became extremely popular. It wasn't until 1975, when he signed with Columbia Records and released, Red Headed Stranger, that he would have an album that was praised by the critics and also sold well commercially. Nelson would join with Waylon Jennings and they would come up with a brand of music called outlaw country. Their album, Wanted:Outlaws was the first country music album to sell one million records. In the 1970s, he would release two more albums that would go at least platinum. They were called way Waylon and Willie and Stardust.
