The Chicago Bears are one of the two teams that have been with the National Football League since its’ inception, along with the Arizona Cardinals. They are a member of the NFC North and are based out of Chicago, Illinois. The team was established in 1919 in Illinois. The team moved to Chicago two years later. In its’ long history, the team has won 8 NFL Championships and were winners of Super Bowl XX.
The team plays their games at Soldier Field -
which has recently been renovated to add many of the modern conveniences that newer stadiums enjoy. The Bears have played in Soldier Field for nearly 40 years and wanted to retain the prominent Chicago stadium.
The team has has had a good deal of success and have had many great players. In fact, the team leads the league in Hall of Fame inductees, with 26. The 1985 season was an outstanding one for the Bears. “Refrigerator” Perry was a 350 pound lineman that ruled the field. That year they won the Super Bowl and recorded a popular rap song and video titled the “The Super Bowl Shuffle.”
In 2004, the Chicago Bears hired Lovie Smith as their head coach. Using the Tampa 2 defense, his team terrorized many opponents on the field. Brian Urlacher became one of the league’s best defensive players. In one year since Smith’s arrival in 2005, the Bears were winners of their divison and made the playoffs. This was a feat that they had only accomplished once in four years. The next season, the team won their division for a second time in a row and would eventually make it to the Super Bowl where they would end up losing to the Indianapolis Colts. Suprisingly Lovie Smith was the lowest paid coach in the National Football League. He received an extension that included a big raise after his team’s Super Bowl run.
