The team would have nearly 90 years of bad “luck”. This was believed to be due to the “Curse of the Black Sox,” which was connected to the Black Sox scandal. The Black Sox scandal involved several of the team's best players being suspended during the season. Most people believed that the Sox were in the hunt to win another tenant. The suspension of the players prevented that from happening. However the curse of the Black Sox would eventually be broken in fantastic fashion, when the team brought home the World Series championship in 2005.
The year that the team won the World Series they had the best record in Major League Baseball the majority of the year. St. Louis would end up finishing the season with the best record with the White Sox closely behind. The first team that the White Sox faced in the postseason were the Red Sox. The Red Sox had won the World Series the year before. The White Sox would sweep the Red Sox and move on to the second round. The next team up for the White Sox were the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. The team would go on to defeat the Angels and move on to the World Series, they would meet up with the Houston Astros. The Chicago White Sox would go on to take the series and win the World Series championship.
In 2007 White Sox fans would see the team finishing fourth in their division ending up with a losing record. They posted 79 wins and 90 losses, trailing the Detroit Tigers the Cleveland Indians and the Minnesota Twins.
