Cincinnati Bengals Tickets
Located in Cincinnati, Ohio, the Cincinnati Bengals played their first season in 1968. A part of the National Football League (NFL) they are part of the American football conference (AFC) with their home games at Paul Brown Stadium.
The team’s first season was played at the home of what today is the University of Cincinnati Bearcats, Nippert Stadium. They finished that season with a 3-11 record and Rookie of the Year, Paul Robinson, won the rushing title by -
rushing for 1,023 yards that year.
In the 1980s they played in two Super Bowls, losing to the San Francisco 49ers both times. Their best season was in 1975 when they had an 11-3 record.
The stadium they play in today, Paul Brown Stadium, was named after Pro Football Hall of Famer Paul Brown. His son and current owner of the Cincinnati Bengals, Mike Brown, named the stadium after his father. Paul Brown led the Cincinnati-based Cincinnati Bengal owners in the beginning of 1967, when they were granted their franchise license. Paul Brown was well known for recognizing pro football talent and was often times drafting players with higher than average intelligence who attended Harvard and Dartmouth College, among others. Many of his players went on to have successful careers in television commentary and radio broadcasting.
The team’s nickname, the Bengals came from Paul Brown, giving an attachment to other teams in Cincinnati. He also chose the team’s colors of orange with black lettering as well as the simple logo style. After Paul Brown's death in 1990, the Bengals had 14 non-winning seasons and did not emerge from the slump until after 2003 with a new coach, Marvin Lewis.
As of 2006 the Bengals had a overall record of 267 wins and 342 losses with one tie, the Cincinnati Bengals are emerging from a long slump into the limelight. Carson Palmer, Chad Johnson and TJ Houshmandzadeh are leading the resurgence, although the team did finish with a poor 2007 season.
