Cleveland Browns Tickets
The Cleveland Browns are located in Cleveland, Ohio. They compete in the American Football Conference's North Division. The Browns have had one undefeated season when they went 15 -0 in 1948 and have won four AAFC (All-America Football Conference) titles.
The teams nickname was originally decided by a citywide contest with the most popular name being panthers. It was brought to the attention that a team within the city, with the same name, had a losing record. As a result, a -
second contest was held and the “Brown Bomber's” became the second choice, after the great fighter, Joe Louis. The name was later shortened to the Cleveland Browns.
The Cleveland Browns began playing in 1946 in the Cleveland Municipal Stadium and had a large fan base with an average of 57,000 attending the game during its first season.
Many Cleveland Browns players reside in the Pro football Hall of Fame with Otto Graham being the first Brown enshrined, the latest being pro football Hall of Famer Jean Hickerson, in 2007. Others include Paul Brown, the head coach for the Cleveland Browns from 1946 to 1962 who was inducted in the Hall of Fame in 1967, the famous Bobby Mitchell, who played from 1958 to 1961 (wide receiver halfback) was inducted in 1983. The most recent player was Joe Delamielleure who was inducted in 2003 and played with the team from 1980 to 1984.
In 1996, owner Art Modell who purchased the team in 1961, decided to move the team to Baltimore, causing a lot of unease with Modell and even lawsuits. This instigated the city of Cincinnati to tear down the Cleveland municipal Stadium and woo the Cleveland Browns back with a brand-new Cleveland Browns Stadium.
Due to the lawsuits and angry fans, the NFL deactivated the team for three years until the new stadium was built. Modell retained all contracts with players during that time and started a new team, the Baltimore Ravens. The team returned in 1999, with ownership from Al Lerner. It wasn't until the 2007 season that the Browns began a return to fame with a season of 10-6, barely missing out on participating in the playoffs.
