Detroit Tigers Tickets
The Detroit Tigers are a member of Major League Baseball. They were founded in 1894. They compete in the American League Central division. The team plays their home games in Comerica Park, and this has been their home for the past eight years. The Detroit Tigers were one of the eight founding teams in the American League.
In 1945, the team won the World Series battling and fending off, Chicago. For 11 years, from 1994 through 2005, the Tigers could not -
produce a winning season. This was the longest time in the history of the franchise that this type of streak occurred. The closest the team got to even posting a .500 record were in the years 1997 and 2000, where they won 79 games and lost 83. In 2006, the team began to show some signs of life and came in second in their division and were rewarded with a wild card birth. Even though this was a good finish, considering their history, the Tigers were expected to win their division and they only had to win one of their remaining five games, which they failed to do. The Minnesota Twins ended up winning the division. However, the Tigers went on to an impressive series win over the New York Yankees, beating them three games to one. They went on to beat the Oakland Athletics in the next round, sweeping that club, and then they went on to play in the World Series where they ended up losing to the St. Louis Cardinals. However, it was an outstanding run, especially for a wildcard berth team.
The Tigers have quite a few former players that have been inducted into the Hall of Fame. Some of which include, Sparky Anderson, Larry Doby, Huey Jennings, Ty Cobb, Hank Greenberg, Al Simmons, Sam Thompson, Ed Barrow, Eddie Matthews, Earle Averill, Jim Bunning, Bucky Harris, Mikey Cochrane and Goose Goslin. They also have five jersey numbers retired and displayed, they include Hank Greenberg, Willie Horton, Al Kaline, Charlie Gehringer, Hal Newhouser and Jackie Robinson (retired league wide).
