Florida Marlins Tickets
The Florida Marlins are professional a baseball team that joined Major league Baseball as an expansion franchise in 1993. They compete in the National League East division and are named after a fish, the Marlin. The Florida Marlins play in Dolphin Stadium, and they call Miami Gardens, Florida, home.
The Florida Marlins hold a rather distinct position as they are an expansion franchise that has actually been very successful rather quickly. They won the World Series twice. Once -
in 1997, and the other time in 2003. Both times, they entered the playoff picture as a wild card, and they've never won in their own East division. However, surprisingly, while the Marlins have been so successful on the field, they haven't received a ton of fan support and ownership has been accused of mismanagement and poor leadership. Low attendance was blamed on the poor state of the stadium and after they threatening to leave the city for nearly 10 years, the city, finally caved and agreed to contribute to the $525 million dollar stadium project. In order to get the deal done, the ownership had to agree to change name of the team to the Miami Marlins.
The Marlins 1997 World Series win, came at the expense of the Cleveland Indians. This series went seven games, with the Marlins pulling out the win. After 1997, surprisingly, the team was dismantled by the owner who stated that financially the team was losing money. Many of the team's best players were shipped out. Not surprisingly, the next year, 1998, the team struggled pretty mightily and lost over 100 games. They won the least amount of contests that year. However, despite the slump, the team came back in 2003 to win another World Series. The Florida Marlins ended up upsetting the New York Yankees, winning the series in six games, the last and final game being at Yankees stadium. The 2007 season proved to be a very bad for the Marlins as they finished the season with 71 wins and 91 losses.
