Los Angeles Dodgers Tickets
The Los Angeles Dodgers are a professional baseball team that was founded in 1883. Los Angeles has been the home team for the Dodgers since 1958. The Dodgers compete in the National League West Division. The LA Dodgers original home was in Brooklyn, New York where they were called to Brooklyn Dodgers.
The Brooklyn Dodgers are well known for breaking the color barrier in baseball. Jackie Robinson became the first African-American to -
join and play with a Major League Baseball Team. In April of 1947, he became a member of the Brooklyn Dodgers. Branch Rickey was very instrumental in making sure that this happened. Rickey was known as a very religious man and he felt that he had a moral obligation to integrate again. He also was a great businessman. Many people believed that this was a very important part of the civil rights movement. Robinson was an excellent a player and was awarded the Rookie of the Year Award his first year, playing in the league. The awarded is now named in his honor. However, Jackie Robinson wasn't the only African-American baseball player that the Dodgers employed. Earl C. Lockheart was a pitcher, who was hired by the club in the 1950’s as well.
The team also employed a colorful coach by the name of Tommy Lasorda, a couple of decades later, who was known to love to eat lots of Italian food and hang out with the likes of Frank Sinatra and other celebrities. He also helped the team win. The team won the NL West 1977, 1978 and 1980.
In 2007 the Dodgers finished just above .500, winning 82 games and losing 80. That year, they also hired Joe Torre as the team's manager, who had an impressive run with the Yankees in the decade of the 2000’s.
