Today, the Masters golf tournament is one of the world’s most watched and prestigious tournaments. The winner of this tournament is essentially golf royalty for the year. For the last decade, one man has seemingly dominated golf and the Master’s tournament. This man is Tiger Woods and each year, he is the man to beat.
The Masters golf tournament is generally played in the beginning of April every year. In 1934, Horton Smith was the tournament’s first winner. In the 1950s, golf greats Arnold Palmer and Ben Hogan won several of the Masters tournaments. In 1965 and 1966 Jack Nicholas won back-to-back tournaments and became the first golfer to do so.
In the 1980s, Tom Watson won twice as did Seve Ballesteros. In the late 1980s, Jack Nicholson won his sixth Masters tournament. In the late 1990s, Tiger Woods began dominating golf, including the Masters. In 1997, he broke the scoring record that had been in place for more than 30 years. In 2001, he won the Masters tournament again. This was the fourth major golf tournament that he had won in a row. In 2002, Tiger would win again and became one of three players to win more then one Masters golf tournament in a row. In 2005, he was again fitted for the green jacket and became the third golfer to win four Masters tournaments.
