The Minnesota Vikings are a professional football team who play in the NFC North. They were previously a member of the Central division. However, when the National Football League realigned the divisions, they were moved. The team has played in four Super Bowls but have yet to win one. The club was established in 1961. They are based in Minneapolis, Minnesota and currently play their home games at the Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome.

  • The 1990s were a good decade for the Minnesota Vikings on the football field. Dennis Green was hired as the head coach in 1992. During his tenure, he led the team to four division titles, they went to the playoffs eight times, and played in two NFC championship games. 1998 was a particularly standout year. The team had very good players in quarterback Randall Cunningham, running back Robert Smith, wide receiver Chris Carter and rookie wide receiver Randy Moss. The team was extremely explosive and set a National Football League record for most points scored in a season with 556. The record has since been broken. The team would finish the regular-season with a 15-1 record. They continued their sucess in the playoffs by beating Arizona in the first round by 20 points. They then face the Atlanta Falcons for the NFC title in the second round. Atlanta would go on to pull out an upset and win by three points.

The decade of the 2000’s wouldn't be as kind to the Minnesota Vikings event though they have posted some pretty good regular-season records. In 2000, the team went 11-5 and won the first round of the playoffs. They then faced the Giants and experienced their worst loss in history, losing 41-0. In 2001, the team went 5-11. In 2003 the Vikings would miss the playoffs. In 2004 the team would finish the regular-season 8-8. They made the playoffs and won their first round game, then lost to the Philadelphia Eagles in the divisional title game. In 2005 Randy Moss, the team’s most well known player, was considered a destructive force and traded to the Oakland Raiders. In 2006, Brad Childress took the reins as head coach, replacing Mike Tice. The team finished the year with an 8-8 record and missed the playoffs.
