NASCAR Tickets NASCAR, stands for the National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing. Each year, 1500 stock car races are sanctioned by the organization throughout the United States, Mexico and Canada. The most well known and popular series of races include the Craftsman Truck Series, the Sprint Cup and the Nationwide Series.
Only trailing the NFL, NASCAR attracts more television viewers then the NBA or Major League Baseball. Races can be watched in -
more then 100 countries. This makes it big business. Race related products are sold to a tune of $3 billion every year and corporate sponsorships are plentiful.
NASCAR is headquarted in Florida. However, there are also offices in North Carolina, California, Arkansas, New York, Canada and Mexico. Currently teams can be found in the following cities, amongst others, Greensboro, Concord, Charlotte, Harrisburg and Mooresville.
The Sprint Cup is the most notable and distinguised of all the NASCAR series. The Series takes place over a 10 month season and includes 36 races. Drivers are competing for total prize money of $4 million dollars. For the last two years, 2006 and 2007, Jimmie Johnson has been the Sprint Cup Champion.
The second most prestigous series in NASCAR is the Nationwide Series. Carl Edwards was 2007’s winner. Races in the Nationwide Series take place in and outside of the United States. The prize money for this series is significantly lower then the Sprint Cup and there are less races. This series was established in 1982 and Anheuser-Busch would originally sponser the series. Nationwide Insurance took over the sponsership of the series in 2007, thuse the name change from the Busch Grand National Series to the Nationwide Series. Race car drivers can compete in both the Sprint and the Nationwide Series, however in some circles this is frowned upon and these racers are known as “Buschwhackers.”
The Craftsman Truck Series is a racing series that includes modified pickup trucks. Ron Hornaday has been one of the series’ superstars and was the series’ winner in 1996, 1998 and most recently in 2007. The Craftsman Truck Series was originally known as the NASCAR Super Truck Series and has been sponsored by Craftsman since it’s inception in 1994.
