San Francisco Giants Tickets
The professional baseball team, the San Francisco Giants, joined the National League in 1883 and were later added to the Western division in 1969 where they continue to compete. They have been in San Francisco since 1958. The giants have been one of the most successful and popular teams in sports, and were founded by John B. Day and Jim Nutri. They were originally known as the Gothams and later changed their names to the Giants.
The Giants have were the winners of five pennants -
in 28 seasons between the years 1930 and 1957. They were World Series winners in 1933, where they beat the Senators. One of the most memorable members of the Giants is Carl Hubble. In an All-Star game in 1934 he struck out five of the greatest players in baseball history. All five of these players are also in the Hall of Fame. They include Joe Cronin, Jimmie Foxx, Lou Gehrig, Al Simmons and Dave Ruth.
The great baseball player Willie Mays also played for the San Francisco Giants and made some of the best plays in that franchise’s history. Willie Mays’ big catch in the 1954 World Series helped the team avoid a potential loss. He caught an over-the-shoulder line drive hit by Vic Wertz. At that point, the game was tied, and the game was in the eighth inning. Mays made the catch, threw the ball to the infield and prevented the Cleveland Indians from scoring. The Giants went on to sweep the series. The team went on to play in three more World Series in 1962, 1989 and 2005, but have not won again.. In 1957, the other Giants made the move from New York to California. Another great player for the San Francisco Giants is Barry Bonds and although his career has been rife with controversy, both on the baseball field and off of it, he still remains one of the city's biggest sports icons. However, his tenure with the team ended in 2007.
There have been 10 player’s and/or managers numbers retired in the San Francisco franchise, they include Bill Terry, Mel Ott, Carl Hubbell, Willie Mays, Juan Marichal, Orlando Cepeda, Gaylord Perry, Jackie Robinson and Willie McCovey.
