Seattle Mariners Tickets
The Seattle Mariners are a professional baseball team, who were established in 1977. Their home base is in Seattle, Washington. They currently play at Safeco Field. The team’s nickname, the Mariners was inspired by the city’s marine surroundings. The team began as an expansion team in 1977.
The first 20 years were rather difficult on the field as they did not field a winning team until the early nineties. In the mid-nineties, they brought to Seattle it’s very first division -
championship, beating the New York Yankees. In 2001, the team won the 116 games which ties a record for the most wins in a baseball season. However, though they experienced a great year when they won the division they haven’t been able to win a league championship nor have they participated in the World Series. In 2007 the team won 88 games and lost 74 and they finished second in the American League West.
They do have several baseball Hall of Famers. They include Richard Kossage, who pitched in 1994, and Gaylord Perry, another pitcher, who pitched from 1982 to 1983. Their broadcaster, Dave Niehouse was inducted into the Hall of Fame’s Scribes and Mikemen. In 2008 he was also awarded the Ford C. Frick award.
The Seattle Mariners have not retired any uniform numbers. Their policy for retiring numbers includes that a players not only has been inducted into the Hall of Fame, but have also played five years with the Mariners. As a result, no one has been eligible to have their number retired as of yet. However, the team has agreed not to reissue certain uniform numbers due to the outstanding play of the players who once wore them. They include Edgar Martinez, Jay Buhner, Lou Piniella, and Ken Griffey Jr. Randy Johnson's number was not reissued from 1998-2001. However, Ichiro Suzuki convinced the team to reissue the number to him as that was the number he wore when he played baseball in Japan.
