The St Louis Rams are a member of the National Football league, and they compete in the NFC West. The team was established in 1936. However, they were initially based in Cleveland and known as the Cleveland Rams. From Cleveland, the team moved to Los Angeles and became the Los Angeles Rams. They wouldn’t actually move to Saint Louis until 1995.
During the team's first two years in St. Louis, they were coached by Rich Brooks. Dick -
Vermeil would take over in 1997. He would lead the team to the Super Bowl where they beat the Tennessee Titans. Dick Vermeil would briefly retire before he joined the Kansas City Chiefs as the head coach.
Mike Martz became the head coach after Dick Vermeil left. He stayed with the team for five years before he was fired in 2005. Scott Linehan took over in 2006. In the late 1990's and early 2000’s, the St. Louis Rams were outstanding offensively and put a ton of points on the board. They were in led by quarterback Kurt Warner, whose inspirational story included him joining the NFL after a career in the arena football league. He would be named the NFL’s MVP twice in 1999 and 2001 and would also be named a Super Bowl MVP. Marshall Faulk, one of the NFL's greatest running back was also featured on the team as well as outstanding wide receivers Isaac Bruce and Torry Holt. The St. Louis Rams scored so many points and were so exciting to watch, that they were dubbed the “Greatest Show on Turf.” More recently, the St. Louis Rams have struggled a great deal and have been unable to be a dominant force in the National Football League.
Six St. Louis Rams have had the honor of having their number retired. They include Bob Waterfield, Marshall Faulk, Jackie Slater, Eric Dickerson, Jack Youngblood and Merlin Olson.
