Tampa Bay Devil Rays Tickets
Tampa Bay Rays were established in 1998. They are a member of the Major League Baseball's American League and are in the Eastern division. They currently play at Tropicana Field. The Tampa Bay Rays were originally known as the Devil Rays, named for the Mantra Ray. The Mantra Ray still appears on the teams logos of the team.
They joined the league as an expansion franchise. They have subsequently struggled as a franchise. They have yet to play in a single -
game in the playoffs. The Rays have placed last since they've been a franchise, with one exception in 2004, they came in fourth place. They also joined the Washington Nationals, the Texas Rangers and the Seattle Mariners as having never made it to the World Series.
Although the Tampa Bay Rays have only been in existence 14 years, they do have a strong baseball history. Quite a few teams have their spring training in St. Petersburg, home of the Rays. For example, the Chicago Cubs have done some spring training there as well as the Boston Braves, the New York Mets, the Baltimore Orioles, the New York Giants, the New York Yankees, the St. Louis Browns, Philadelphia Phillies, St. Louis Cardinals and the Bay Rays also conduct their spring training in their hometown. The Tampa Bay area has also been home to some minor league franchises. They hosted the Florida State League of which was originally a class D baseball league. The Florida State League is now a class A league and the Tampa Yankees are member of it.
In 2007, the team fielded one of the youngest starting lineup in the league. That year that Devil Rays finished third in the American League in home runs. They also were third in stolen bases with 131. They could boast of having the comeback player of the year in Carlos Pena. In 2008, the team introduced new uniforms and a new logo. There are no longer the Devil Rays, but now simply the Rays. They have adopted new team colors, which now include Columbia blue navy and a little bit of gold. The logo now consists of a yellow sunburst, which represents the Sunshine State of Florida.
