Grease Tickets The musical Grease is based on the 1978 movie, with the same title. Both stories center around a certain group of youths that were known as the “greasers”. The musical as well as the film, were based on the period of the 1950s in Chicago and focuses on a relationship between Sandy Dumbrowski and Danny Zuko. The film was a bit ground breaking in its’ discussion of issues such as gangs, teen pregnancy, classicism and even rebellion.

The music for the musical was written by Jim Jacobs and Warren Casey. They also wrote the lyrics and the musical's books. The show has seen production Broadway, in West End, London as well as an American tour. The musical Grease was extremely popular and set records for the amount of time that it ran on Broadway. In fact, only A Chorus Line has run longer as a Broadway musical.
Before the play hit Broadway, there was a production in Chicago. It then moved off Broadway and began performances in Manhattan. It finally reached Broadway. Tom Moore directed the Broadway production of the musical and Patricia Burch did the choreography.
In 1972, Grease was nominated for a Tony award for Best Musical, for Best Actor in a Musical, for Best Book, for Best Featured Actress in a musical, for Best Featured Actor in a Musical, for Best Choreography, for Best Costume Design. It won a World Theatre Award, as well as a Drama Desk Award for Choreography and for Most Promising Costume Design. This was for the 1972 run of the musical. It was brought back in 1994, where it won a Theater World Award. The 1994 rendition of the play was nominated for Tony awards in several major categories. The include, Best Revival of a Musical, Best Featured Actress in a Musical, Best Choreography. It was nominated for two Drama Desk awards in 1994 as well. And those were for the categories of Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Musical and for Outstanding Choreography.
