Spamalot Tickets The Broadway production Monty Python’s Spamalot is based upon the movie Monty Python and the Holy Grail, which came out in 1975 and was a cult class. Spamalot, the Musical, is a comedic musical that pokes fun at Arthurian Legend, as well as the Broadway theater.
Spamalot began showing in 2005 and has received several Tony awards, including one for Best Musical in 2005. The show’s Broadway previews were highly anticipated and sold out. -
The play has not only proven to be highly successful in the United States, by both critics and audiences, where it has been seen in places like Chicago, Broadway in New York and Las Vegas but also in London and Austria. There is even a production of the musical set to open in 2009 in Germany. Other countries which are interested in bringing the production in, are Poland, the Netherlands, Italy, Japan and Israel.
In 2004, the musical, Spamalot, was nominated one for an industry-leading 14 Tony awards. They included nominations for Best Direction of a Musical, Best Musical, Best Performance by a Featured Actress in a Musical, Best Original Score, Best Performance by a Featured Actor in a Musical, Best Book of a Musical, Best Scenic Design of a Musical, Best Performance by a Featured Actor in a Musical, Best Lighting Design of a musical, best choreography and best orchestrations, to name a few. Music for the musical, was written by Eric Idle, who was once a part of the Monty Python comedy team and John Du Prez. Lyrics were also written by Eric idle and the book for the musical was written by Eric Idle as well. Mike Nichols was the director.
In 2005, at the musical’s Broadway debut, King Arthur was played by Tim Curry, Patsy was played by Michale McGrath, Sir Galahad was played by Christopher Sieber, the Lady of the Lake was played by Sara Ramirez, Sir Robin was played by David Hyde Peirce and Sir Lancelot was played by Hank Azaria.
